Amplifying Voices From Below, From Roots To Reform

CIVIC ROOT ADVOCACY NPC
Civic Root Advocacy

Was established in July 2025 by Siyabulela Jentile

following his six month residency in Paris, France, where he received intensive training in advocacy, leadership, and negotiation. Nearly a decade earlier, Siyabulela had made a life-changing transition from a career in civil engineering consulting to full-time activism, founding and leading Not In My Name International NPC, the civic movement behind the influential #NotInMyName campaign in South Africa.

Guided by a belief that democracy must be rooted in the voices and lived experiences of ordinary people, Siyabulela created Civic Root Advocacy to focus more sharply on policy reform, civic engagement, and democratic education. While this new platform deepens his work in governance and advocacy, it also complements and builds upon the ongoing achievements of the #NotInMyName movement in advancing gender equality and providing social relief.

Siyabulela’s leadership has earned him national and international recognition. He is a recipient of honours from the African Union, United Nations, and the Government of France, and is the first South African and the first in Southern Africa - to be named a Laureate of the French Government’s Initiative Marianne. His global leadership credentials include participation in prestigious programs such as the Obama Foundation Africa Leaders Program and the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (Civic Engagement track; Presidential Precinct in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA).

Beyond activism, he is a self-published author, a former feature writer for the United Nations Association - UK’s magazine, and one of the two Africans serving as ad hoc advisors to the United Kingdom’s Together First Global Campaign.

At the heart of Siyabulela’s work is a deep commitment to human rights, social justice, and inclusive governance. He works to amplify marginalized voices, dismantle systemic inequality, and create spaces where dignity, rights, and justice are not just aspirational values, but tangible realities. His vision is for public policy to be shaped by the communities it is meant to serve; ensuring that governance in South Africa, and beyond, is participatory, equitable, and accountable. Civic Root Advocacy exists to set this in motion.

Our Mission

To champion equitable, transparent, and community-driven public policy through advocacy, civic and political education, and people-powered solutions to build a more just, inclusive, and accountable democracy.

Our Vision

We envision a South Africa where democratic processes and public policy is transparent, participatory, and accountable to the people; where those most affected by policy decisions have a real seat at the table; and where justice is embedded in every level of governance.
